Medina Glows During the 31st Candlelight Walk

Posted by

This past weekend marked the official beginning to the Christmas Shopping Season. With over 5,000 candles lit over 3 days of festive family fun, this year's Candlelight Walk was Medina's biggest! Events were held on the Historic Public Square and here at Root Candles that drew thousands of locals and visitors.

Friday evening kicked off the weekend festivities with the Tree Lighting Ceremony where Mayor, Dennis Hanwell, accompanied by Brad and Katherine Root, their daughter Emily, and members of City Council bathed the city in light with the flick of a switch.

The fun continued into Saturday with the local favorite: Medina Farmer's Market, hosted by yours truly! Local farms offered freshly picked fruits and vegetables while bakeries had tasty scones, pies, cookies and other delectable treats to sink your teeth into. As the sun set, sidewalks were aglow with the flickering flame of the luminaries which marked the path for the Parade of Lights. Despite the cold and rain, thousands kept the Christmas Spirit alive cheering on the passing floats. Grand Marshall of the parade, the Root Family, hitched a ride with the Grinch on his sleigh. Rain did not delay the fireworks which concluded the parade, but the evening carried on as shopping (and eating) continued in store and around the district.

We offered tasty samples from our friends at Robert Rothschild Farms, Westbrook's Cannery (both Made in Ohio), Stonewall Kitchen, and Wind and Willow all weekend long. We shared fabulous appetizer ideas for the holiday season, including a cookie bar using different dips and sauces! A sugar cookie topped with Hot Cherry Merlot Dip started was a delicious combination of sweet and spicy, a must try!

The shopping continued into Sunday as the Medina Farmer's Market once again joined us. Public Square was bustling while Medina Choirs sang Christmas Carols while children visited with Santa. The luminaries were lit one last time as the city glowed, marking the end to another fun-filled and successful Candlelight Walk.

We would like to wish you all a very happy holiday season filled with love, laughter, and friendship! Happy Thanksgiving!
